Week 8

Preschool Class

The Loaves and the Fishes

We had a wonderful morning in Sunday School this past Sunday. The children have settled in Sunday School beautifully this term and have adjusted to our basic routine.

The teachers were very pleased with the number of children who learnt their memory verse! We had a record number of 12 children say their memory verse. Well done Ella, Lachlan D, Lachlan H, Aaliyah, Malakai , Audrey, Olivia, Natshi, Lauren, Heidi, Hayden and James!!

Our new memory verse until the end of the term is: The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want. Ps 27:1. We practiced this in class and clapped the syllables for ‘Shall Not Want’ to help children remember it.

This week we went on a picnic outside and learnt about the miracle of Jesus feeding the 5000. We had a great time, ate bread and fish-shaped bickies and drank juice. Our focus for the lesson was to highlight how Jesus cared for the crowd and didn’t send them away hungry but performed a miracle so they would be filled up. Here is a photo of one of the games we played (fishing for bread and loaves)!

There will be no Sunday School over the Easter weekend but look forward to one more day of Sunday School before the Autumn break.

Please also remember to get your child’s details back to your Sunday School teachers asap

Week 6

Pre-School class – The Ten Lepers: Be thankful!

Text: Luke 17:11-19

As Jesus was going to Jerusalem he passed through Samaria and Galilee where 10 men that were lepers met him from a long way off. They called out to Jesus saying ‘Jesus, Master have mercy on us!’ When Jesus saw them he told them to go and show themselves to the priest. As the went, they were healed. Only one of those men then came back and fell at Jesus’ feet and thanked him. Jesus said to him, your faith has made you whole.

Throughout the lesson today we focused our attention on then man who said “thank you”. We talked about how we must be thankful to Jesus by telling him we’re thankful and telling others when Jesus heal us.

Activity

We coloured in a picture of the 10 lepers and students have taken these home to show you and to talk with you about the story of the ten lepers. We have also sent home an extra activity where the children can make finger puppets to retell the story.

Memory Verse

Congratulations to Aaliyah who has learnt the first memory verse!

Our memory verse for the next few weeks remains as it is quite tricky.

Mtt10:6 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead: freely ye have received, freely give.

We have used some sign language in class to help us learn it. Your children may remember these signs if you ask them.

News

The children in the preschool class who are in kindergarten will be moving up to the lower primary class next term. If you have any questions or concerns about this please talk to us after Sunday School.

Week 5

Preschool Class - Jesus Heals

Bartimeus was blind and he had to beg at the edge of the town of Jericho. When he heard that Jesus was coming he was excited, he knew Jesus was getting closer by the noise of the crowd. He called out to Jesus to get His attention but the people around him told tim to be quiet, but he shouted louder. Jesus heard Bartimeus and asked what was it he wanted. Because of his faith jesus healed Bartimeus.

Some of the childrne were blindfolded and tried to guess what objects were that were placed in their hands, they may guess correctly but couldn't tell what colour it was. how sad not to be able to see the beautiful things God has placed in this world He created for us.

Bartimeus was persistent, he wasn't going to be quiet until he had what he wanted.

Activity - We had a aad face and a happy face of Bartimeus and decorated it with cotton wool for the beard and material for his turban. We could hold it up and turn it to show sad/happy faces.

Memory verse - Good work Peter and lauren who learnt their memory verse - Luke 19:10
Children can continue to learn any of the memory verses given there is no time limit other than once one is learnt we will give them another. Memory verses can be learnt by using action, pictures or broken up into segments to make it fun.
We have a new memory verse for the next couple of weeks. It is:
Matthew 10:6 'Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead: freely ye have received, freely give.'

The Girls Class
This weeks lesson was 'God wants you, His princess, to be wise' and 'Be careful of making friends with strangers'
We talked about what wisdom is and how important wisdom is in making decisions. When we follow God's way of thinking, we will be wise in the things we do. One area God wants us to be wise in is in the friendships we make. We discussed characteristics of a good friend. For our activity we asked the girls to think about a male role model that is close to them (dad, uncle, brother, grandfather etc), and think about what makes that person special. The girls decorated their own crown and wrote down good attributes these people show.
The girls are doing a fantastic job in learning their memory verses. We are nearly up to all girls learning their verses each week! Well done!
This week we have two memory verses: 'The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom' Psalm 111:10 and 'Man looks at the outward appearance but the Lord looks at the heart' 1 Samuel 16:7
Boys Class
'Guarding your ears, eyes, mouth, hands and feet'
Memory verse: They word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105
The music we listen to, the movies we watch, the games we play, the places we go, things we talk about. All these things are communicating to our sons the value that we are placing on God's salvation, because they will most likely do what we do out of example. Perhaps there are some things in your home that need to go. Talk about it and act on it, the example to your sons will be powerful and they will sense that they are on the journey with you (Proverbs 4:20-27).

Week 4

Preschool Class: The Sower

How wonderful it was to see so many children in Sunday School this week! Wehad 19 children, four of which were first timers!
Today's lesson was on the Sower and his seed. He sowed his seed everywhere in hope that it would take root and grow. We learnt about not letting things stop us from growing in God and we encouraged the children to 'growin God' by loving him, pleasing him and telling others about him.

For our activity we used real seeds to make sunflowers. Some of the children were happy to have theirs displayed in the classroom also to brighten it up. Others took theirs home and I hope didn't make too much of a mess through the cars! This is the last time we will have this memory verse as it will change next week.

Girls Class - God is pleased that you are growing / Guard your kiss as you grow!
Memory Verse: Keep your heart with all diligence. Proverbs 4:23

Today we learnt about how God has a plan for our lives. As we grow, there are things He would like us to do and we need to make sure our heart is ready and waiting for when God would use us.

Boys Class - Living by the Scroll
Memory Verse: How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. Psalm 119:9

Knowing the bible will help us recognise any advise that does not sound like what we have learned from God, our parents and other authorities. Hiding Gods word in our heart takes consistency and work but the benefits are enourmous, ask questions at the dinner table to show the great wisdom in the word of God.

Week 3

Preschool Class: The Treasure in the Field

What a great morning we had today! The children were all so happy and
excited to learn.

The two songs we have been learning this past few weeks are "Jesus made my
fingers" and "My God is so Big". The children are getting to know these
songs well and I'm sure they would love to sing them for you! We also have
Brother Josh coming in each week to play the guitar for us.

Today's lesson was about what a treasure Jesus is and how we must make sure
we have Jesus more than any other treasure. We told the story of the man
who found the treasure in the field. He hid the treasure and then sold all
that he had to buy the field. We told the story with small figurines and
the children were SO excited to find treasure hidden under the sand!

For our activity we made little treasure boxes to remind us that Jesus is
the greatest treasure.

Our memory verse continues for this week and is:
'Jesus came to seek and to save that which was lost' Luke 19:10

Please continue to encourage you children to memorise this verse.
Girls Class: God gave you a very special gift / God offers the most precious gift.
Memory verse: 'Every good and every perfect gift comes from above' James 1:17
This week was a wonderful opportunity for us to talk about salvation with the girls. God has given us the opportunity to experience the new birth. We were able to discuss what this means and have a special time of prayer with the girls. What a beautiful thing to see tears in the eyes of some of the girls as they spoke to Jesus from their hearts!
Things you can talk about with your girls:
Talk about some of the gifts that God has given your daughter. Emphasise the preciousness of her gift of purity, which comes from a pure and holy God. Discuss ways she can protect that purity. As you feel comfortable and as your daughter is old enough, share your own experiences with the gift God gave you. Help her to see that she has a choice in what she will do with God’s
gift. As she matures, this might also be an opportunity to discuss the blessings of marriage and the blessings of serving God as a single woman – that each is a gift from God.
For additions study: Philippians 4:8, 1 John 3:2-3
Boys Class: Protecting Your Purity
Memory Verse: 'Keep your heart with all diligence' Proverbs 4:23
When we give our lives to Jesus and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, we become a temple for
God (1 Corinthians 3:16). We need to protect our heart so that we do not lose that wonderful gift that God has given us. Talk with your son about the different ways that you guard your heart. For example we chose not to watch certain movies or use certain words that others use! Read Proverbs 7:1-5

Week 2

Preschool Class

‘The Lost Coin’
We had a wonderful morning this morning and had a class FULL of 19 students! We know that it can be tough teaching a verse to young children but be reassured that any time spent teaching your children verses in the bible is time well spent. We are so pleased that Lachlan D, Malakai,
Ella, Audrey and Olivia have already learned our first verse for the year!
'Jesus came to seek and to save that which was lost' Luke 19:10

LESSON:
‘The Lost Coin’ in Luke 15: 8 Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it? 9 And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together,
saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost. 10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

The emphasis was placed upon how happy Jesus is when one person comes to know him.

ACTIVITY:
The children decorated treasure boxes and a coin to
remember that God treasures them and that they are special to God.

Here are some of the wonderful artworks from last week!

Girls Class

God Loves You / You Are A Unique Treasure
Memory Verse: We love Him because He first Loved Us. 1 John 4:19

Your continual personal affirmations of love and acceptance will help strengthen your daughter’s view of God. If you prayed for your daughter before she was born, share that with her. Point out your daughter’s unique qualities, thanking God for how special He has made her. Name others who love her dearly, especially those who know the Lord. Encourage these people to tell what they think is special about your daughter. She needs to know that there are many people who love and care about her.
For additional study: Psalm 139:13-18, Ephesians 1:6; 2:10

Boys Class

Becoming God's Pure Knight / Serving The King

Memory Verse: Choose you this day who you will serve, as for me and my house we will serve the Lord. Joshua 24:15
Talk to your son aboutreal men. Men that trust God, and lead their families to serve God. How does it feel when friends go back down on their promises? One incredible quality that we want our boys to have is honour; to honour their word, to honour their commitments, to honour their family, to honour their covenant with God. These things take time and courage.

High School Class

Today those in the High School class received a folder in which had sheets of paper to assit them in taking notes during the morning service. There will no no High School class until Term 2. The teens will hand their folders to Brother Ben at the end of the service.

Sunday, 12th February, 2012

Preschool Class
Today's lesson was: 'Jesus and the Children'. The emphasis was on how special we are to Jesus even as little children. He wants the children to know that they can come to Him always, when they are afraid, tired and even when they are just happy. Jesus is never too busy or too important to hear them. Our activity: We made a picture of ourselves to show we are all different but Jesus loves us all the same, these have been placed on the wall in the Pre-School room for all to come and see. Our Memory Verse: Lk 19:10 Jesus came to seek and to save that which was lost
